WASHINGTON – Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt spent $1,560 in taxpayer money on 12 custom fountain pens emblazoned with his signature and the agency’s seal, according to internal emails obtained by the Sierra Club through a public records request.
In addition to the pens, Pruitt purchased personalized journals that brought the total cost to $3,230, The Washington Post reported.
“Scott Pruitt couldn’t be entrusted to keep watch over a child’s piggy bank,” said EWG President Ken Cook. “He’d just as quickly drain it and waste the loot on extravagance – as he has done repeatedly with taxpayers’ hard-earned money.”
The cost of each pen was $130, which is $4 more than what the average recipient of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits gets in a month to help them put enough food on the table.
